Local Illinois municipalities rushing to get semi-auto bans in place before cutoff.

Local Illinois municipalities are rushing to beat the 10 day window they have to pass any new bans on semiautomatic firearms.

Under the legislation passed establishing Concealed Carry, existing bans on semi-automatic firearms, or so called "assault weapons" can stay on the books and municipalities have 10 days to pass any new bans.  After that, municipalities will no longer be allowed to enact any new semi-auto bans.

Several towns are looking to establish a ban as quickly and quietly as possible.  These meetings will likely not have much notice given and they will be voted on in a single meeting.  Residents will need to be ready to mobilize, make phone calls and show up at short notice.

The Illinois State Rifle Association has a full list of townhall meetings.

I urge any of you in Illinois to stay informed and make sure to make your voice heard at any potential meetings.

Secession movement growing for 51st State. "North Colorado" .

When Colorado approved draconian new gun laws earlier in the year, there was an initial level of blow back that was somewhat expected by lawmakers in the State Capitol.  What has followed is probably something they didn't anticipate.

Recall petitions have been successfully filled, the vast majority of CO Sheriffs have filed a lawsuit and major manufactures are fleeing the state.

Now, 10 counties are in the process of attempting to secede and form their own state.  North Colorado.

The first step is a ballot initiative but it will be a long road and many hurdles will have to be overcome at both the state and federal level.

The revenue generated from some of these counties is substantial and it's unlikely 'old' Colorado will want to see those resources and tax dollars leave.  Several of the counties looking to leave account for upwards of 80% of all the revenue generated from oil and gas in the state.

There will be other issues as well, including those relating to water rights.

If nothing else, hopefully some better representation in the State Senate can occur, where residents are hoping to change from 35 Senators to 64.  One for each of Colorado's counties.

Something has to change in Colorado and it should be a move towards liberty and freedom.  I hope the good people of Colorado can mobilize and get their state back. Several other neighboring counties are also considering joining.

The bizarre trial of George Zimmerman.

The shooting of Trayvon Martin has made national headlines for months and the trial of George Zimmerman has had some very curious twists.

State witnesses have perjured themselves , the State Attorney Angela Corey allegedly hid exculpatory evidence that should have precluded any charges against Zimmerman, let alone a trial and a "Citizens Grand Jury" has indicted the Special Prosecutor.

One of latest incidents comes from the bench.  Judge Debra Nelson asking George Zimmerman if he planned on testifying.  Not just once but multiple times, I cannot recall ever seeing anything quite like that before. Naturally his lawyers objected to the repeated questioning.

Kathy Belich was as flummoxed as the defense: “I have never seen that in more than 30 years of court reporting.”

It is truly a tragic situation unfolding in Florida.  A life was lost and another life is being ruined for what appears to be political motivations.

As a verdict draws near we can only hope and pray justice prevails in this case.

ISRA files motion to allow carry by July 16th.

The Illinois State Rifle Association believes the State of Illinois is still in violation of a previous Seventh Circuit Court ruling that struck down the ban on Concealed Carry. It could take until mid March of 2014 before the first licenses are actually issued and the ISRA isn't pleased with Illinois stall tactics.

The ISRA has filed a motion to allow concealed carry in Illinois, under the provisions of the law just passed but without a license because citizens Constitutional Rights are still being denied.  The motion asks the District Court to allow carry by July 16th.

In part the ISRA filing states: "Plaintiffs are not asking for an unfettered right to carry firearms in public".  They go on to claim to want carry in accordance of the law recently passed.

Richard Patterson went on to say: "...people are still not allowed the right to carry and won't be for at least another 270 days. In short, our civil rights are still being violated even though the concealed carry bill has passed. Furthermore,  because neither the federal court decision nor the new Carry Act have repealed the AUUW and UUW statutes, law enforcement will continue to enforce both statutes unless a citizen has a valid carry license.  We have asked for immediate relief by Tuesday, July 16, 2013.  We are asking that citizens with FOID cards be allowed to carry in compliance with provisions in HB0183."

Illinois overrides the Governors Amendatory Veto at the last minute. Original Concealed Carry bill is now law.

The Illinois senate over ride the Governors veto 41-17 earlier in the day and with hours left on the clock the House over rode the veto by 77-31.   The state was under a court order to pass a concealed carry bill, the complete prohibition on the carry of firearms was rightfully ruled unconstitutional by the Illinois Supreme Court.

While the original version of the Concealed carry bill is now the law of the land in Illinois, it will be months before the first license is issued.

With over 70 shootings in Chicago over the long holiday weekend and a dozen murders, concealed carry can't come soon enough for the law abiding citizens of Illinois.

Are you more likely to die at the hands of a doctor than a gun? Even in Russia? On Video?

The CDC reports that all medical related errors resulting in death topped 750,000 in 2011.  Compare that about 30,000 deaths from firearms (that number includes over 19,500 suicides) and you find you are about 2,450 times more likely to die at the hands of your Doctor than you are from a firearms related incident.

Perhaps we should license those in the medical field, give them tests from time to time to determine competency, perhaps have them registered?  Check, check and check.  It still doesn't stop all accidents, negligence or criminal behavior.  Does that mean we should stop seeking medical care?  Perhaps we should ban medicine?

Obviously banning medicine is a foolish idea.  Not only would I be out of job but the hundreds of millions of Americans positively effected by medicine obviously outweighs the bad. 

It's the same reason I oppose I virtually all gun control.  Firearms save far more lives and have a far greater positive impact on society than the miniscule amount times they are used carelessly or with malice.

So what about Doctors in Soviet Russia?

Apparently if you aren't gracious enough to your surgeon after open heart surgery you can expect a... education.  If by education you mean the surgeon hitting his restrained patient in the face and chest that is.

There are some things you just can't make up.

Adam Kokesh holds solo open carry protest in DC, July 4, 2013. Video.

Adam Kokesh made national headlines several months ago when he tried to setup an Open Carry march on Washington, DC.  He later called off the march, citing the governments 'desire to slaughter peaceful protestors' as the main reason.

Many opinions were expressed over this topic and over Adam himself.  Regardless of where you fall on your thoughts on him, he is an American and is a combat Veteran.  He has as much of a Right to free speech as anyone else.

On July 4th 2013 Mr Kokesh put his proverbial money where his mouth is.  In bold defiance, he stood in Freedom Plaza with a pump action shotgun and loaded it while he made a statement: "We will not be silenced, we will not obey..."  he ended it "See you next Independence Day."

The caption in the video challenges viewers to count the felonies being displayed and it appears Mr Kokesh is well aware that filming and publishing these 'felonies' could very likely end with him being imprisoned for a very long time.


One can only hope Mr Kokesh has established a crack team of lawyers prior to this protest.  Perhaps it will end with some of DC's draconian guns laws being struck down in court?

In any case, right or wrong.  Love or hate the man, Adam Kokesh acted as though he was a truly a free man.

On a side note, it was encouraging to see Adam dressed nicely and his facial hair nicely groomed.  While I never judge a person based on appearances, it's one less thing to detract from the fact that ownership and possession of arms are a Right.

A Right that is enumerated in the Second Amendment of the Constitution.

Happy Independence Day, Happy Secession Day.

The term "4th of July" has become something I grown to hate.

Sure it makes it easier for retailers to hawk their sale items and takes up less space on the marque but are we really doing a service a to our country by using this mindless term?

237 years the American Colonies seceded from England.  The Declaration of Independence was a the worlds largest middle finger to a tyrannical government since April 19th 1775 when the "Shot heard round the world" was fired in Lexington, MA.

For those of us who always say Happy Independence Day how many blank stares and people do you catch off guard?

I submit the works of Mark Dice.  Not just from one year but from 3 years ago, from 2 years ago, or just a few days ago.  Now if any of you has ever watched "Jay Walking" this probably doesn't come as a surprise.  Obviously he is posting all his highlights but it illustrates the point.

This year, when you hear 4th of July, remind that person of why we seceded, why we declared Independence.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

As you celebrate today and this long holiday weekend, ask yourself, how many of the injustices listed by our Founders in the Declaration of Independence are just as applicable today as they were 237 years ago?


When asked "Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?”  Benjamin Franklin responded   “A Republic, if you can keep it.”  Over two centuries later, do we still have a Republic?

Mather Byles famously asked: "Which is better - to be ruled by one tyrant three thousand miles away or by three thousand tyrants one mile away?"

On Independence Day ask yourself what exactly are you celebrating.  Remind others about why we should be celebrating.  Remember that the only legitimate purpose of government is to protect property and Rights.

More importantly make a pledge to fight for the things that made America great and come Monday, put you full efforts into returning America to a Constitutional Republic.

I urge all of you to reread the Declaration of Independence today and spend some time reflecting on it and the message it conveys.  The founders ended the Declaration with these words:

"we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor."  It may not sound like much to some today, but when taken in the context that the Declaration of Independence was an act of treason, you can see the gravity of what they had done.

Honor their sacrifices today and always.

IL: Gov Quinn uses Amendatory Veto power to further restrict lawful carry.

Governor Quinn has used his Amendatory Veto power to add even more insane restrictions onto those who would choose to defend themselves from violent criminals.

Under these new provisions you couldn't carry into any establishment that served alcohol.  Not even if you didn't have a sip of alcohol or even enter the bar portion of the establishment.  This would make virtually every table service restaurant in the state a no-carry zone.

Even more idiotic is a restriction that would only allow person to carry one firearm with one magazine, not to exceed 10 rounds. 

It would also make the default status for a business be a non carry area unless they specifically posted signage allowing concealed carry.

It also amends the language of "mostly concealed" to "Completely concealed".  Anyone who lived in a state (like Florida was a few year ago) where it must be 100% concealed knows how insane that is and how difficult it can be to be not show .1% of your firearm when you reach a top shelf in a grocery store or bend over to pick up your child and they accidentally lift your shirt.

The House and Senate can accept the Amendatory Veto with a simple majority or they can over ride it.  The bill passed with enough support that, should the votes not change, the original bill will be passed without these new draconian laws.

Who needs a gun in a grocery store? This mother did.

In a previous blog I covered a topic in which a handful of anti self-defense Facebook users posted comments akin to "Who needs a gun in a grocery store?"

Enter Alicia Keating.  While grocery shopping at a Walmart near Oklahoma City with her two daughters a deranged 37 year old man grabbed her two year old from her shopping cart and things went from bad to worse.

In a bizarre move, he hands the mother a cell phone to call a childhood friend who was a police officer before pulling out a knife and holding it to the young girls throat.

A brave Pastor uses his shopping cart to help corral the hostage taker.  Two things can be noted here.  His bravery for doing what he could with what he had and his stupidity for allowing his own young child to stand right there.

There is a reason why some of us train with our carry guns.  There is a reason why some of us only carry full sized, or near full sized handguns, every day.  There is a reason why we have a quality holster.  Put together, the investment made can be thousands and thousands of dollars, from the firearm to the carry gear to the training and ammunition costs.

Ask yourself, if you were in this situation, with your two yer old daughter in the arms of a madman, would you want that .38snubby or tiny .32acp and a basic NRA pistol class or would you want the best possible handgun you could have that would give you the absolute best chance of carrying the day with the best possible training you *could* have taken?  With adrenaline pumping, palms sweaty, heart racing, tunnel vision closing in, honestly, what situation would you prefer?

This unfortunate mother needed a gun in a supermarket this day.  She didn't have one, so she and her fellow shoppers waited until men (and presumably women) with guns did show up.

Recently we saw a mother in NJ home with her two children who was beaten and thrown down her basement stairs as the NannyCam caught it all. 

You need to carry or be within arms reach of your firearm at every moment of every day.  You have no idea when a deranged mad man may decide you are going to be his next victim.
